JOB DESCRIPTION
MLG has an immediate opening for a Sr Litigation Associate. Duties include:
- Preparing cases for jury trials.
- Attending hearings in state and federal court.
- Taking and defending depositions.
- Attending mediations.
- Working with expert witnesses.
- Attending focus groups.
- Drafting law and motion.
- Drafting all trial-related pleadings, including jury instructions, motions in limine and trial briefs.
- Working closely in a team environment.
- Strategic case planning.
- Working with paralegals and support staff.
- Legal research.
- Drafting and responding to discovery.
- Managing document production.
- Drafting and responding to meet and confer letters.
- Communicating with opposing counsel and clients.
Requirements
- Credentials from an ABA accredited law school.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Supervisors – The principal of the firm.
Status – Full time, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, which often cannot be predicted in advance. The position may also require travel to hearings for matters located both inside and outside of California.
Location – Beautiful office environment in the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, across from South Coast Plaza, in Costa Mesa, California.

The Paralegal assists lawyers in preparing and organizing various legal documents for upcoming cases and trials. Their main duties include preparing affidavits and correspondence, discussing case details with attorneys and clients, and organizing different files for different legal proceedings.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help assist to summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys.
- Conduct research, investigate facts and assist in developing both legal arguments and law and motion.
- Draft legal documents such as meet and confer letters, motions to compel, and discovery responses.
- Prepare and file documents with courts.
- Organize and archive the documents related to completed and ongoing cases (including Bates stamp).
- Prepare case “care package”, keep track of changes in legal framework, provide timely updates on these changes and prepare privilege logs.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

JOB SUMMARY:
A Biomedical/Biomechanical Engineering Expert investigates and analyzes biomechanical and biomedical injuries; injury causation; and medical equipment, devices and implants. They provide investigation, analysis, reports and testimony when technical and scientific answers are needed to help resolve civil litigation. The areas of potential litigation include: impact and injury biomechanics; orthopedic biomechanics; trauma causation; and, product liability. A background that includes: casualties caused by vehicle collisions, sports and recreational injuries, occupational injuries and misuse, and medical device warnings and failure, is a perfect fit for this role.
Biomedical/Biomechanical Engineering Expert Responsibilities:
- Perform accident site investigations and inspect vehicles involved in accidents.
- Document accident scenes using forensic documentation procedures.
- Inspect and analyze automotive parts or mechanical parts to determine the cause of failure.
- Inspect and analyze medical records and documentation to determine injuries resulting from a motor vehicle crash.
- Interview occupants, witnesses, and experts.
- Determine the cause of accidents through analysis of evidence gathered from field surveys, specialized photography, vehicle damage profiling, scale replication, occupant motion (kinematics) analysis, video reenactment, field testing and re-enactment of events, analysis of vehicle safety systems for proper functioning, and possible mechanical failure preceding a collision.
- Reconstruct vehicular accidents using engineering methodologies and reviewing materials (photographs, witness statements, depositions, police reports, medical and chiropractic records, etc.) to provide forensic conclusions.
- Perform computer analysis and calculations. Provide timely and accurate technical findings in both verbal and written form.
- Analysis of human injury resulting from vehicular accidents (automotive, motorcycle, trucking, etc.) and provide collision scene analysis.
- Write reports detailing the supporting documentation of the cause of an accident or collision.
- Provide expert witness testimony during court trials or court depositions.
- Retrieval and analysis of Event Data Recorders reports.
- Troubleshoot causes of mechanical failures or defects, such as safety restraint systems, braking, steering etc.
- Travel as needed and, at times, with little notice.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bosch Certified EDR Technician, preferred.
- Bosch Certified EDR Analyst, preferred.
- ACTAR, preferred.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of project management principles and planning.
- Thorough understanding of information technology procedures and practices.
- Proficient with, or able to quickly become proficient with, a range of general and specialized applications, software, and hardware used in the organization and the industry.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to motivate groups of people to complete a project in a timely manner.
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software.
- Determine the dynamics of a vehicle collision or personal injury.
- Prepare, review, and evaluate comprehensive reports related.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Establish effective working relationships with management, employees, employee representatives and the public representing diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Familiarization with accident reconstruction and animation software: Virtual Crash, EDCRASH, EDSMAC, HVE, ARAS360 or other CAD programs.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field; biomechanical engineering degree required.
- Masters degree preferred
- Licensed/Registered preferred
- 10+ years hands-on experience
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a comprehensive team
- Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skill
